When I was in Dubai over Christmas I bought more silk than I knew what to do with (along with a few other things).
I didn't have any specific plans to buy it, but there was so much of it in Dubai and it all looked so amazing I bought it knowing that eventually I would find something(s) that I wanted or ideas of what to do with it. I've had a few little things made with it, but I just got a suit jacket that I had made and I love it! I had the jacket made and lined with the silk inside, I had trouble deciding between the dark red and dark green but decided on the dark green.
As soon as I got I saw it I was so happy with it -- especially because I got a matching pocket square I think it just looks fantastic - I'd really like to get a few more made in different colours. I don't usually wear formal clothes, partly because I don't have frequent chances to. I do sometimes and I think if I have more clothes like this I'll look for more oppourtunities to wear more formal clothes.
I love how it's fairly neutral, but has such a great touch on the inside, and the matching pocket square just makes it.
I just saw these boots in the Holt Renfrew catalogue today and they actually made me drool a little.
I instantly fell in love with them, I do already have a few (5) pairs of boots, and I could definitely picture myself with these ones. I don't normally like Gucci either, but I'm going to make an exception and rethink that right now.
They have them in brown or black -- I think I'd go for the brown ones, but they both look amazing. They'd look good with jeans overtop, but would also be great with jeans tucked in too.
The only thing I don't really like about them is the heel. It doesn't really have one and I prefer a boot with a good heel. I wouldn't mind it without though for me because I'm already about 6'2" so I don't really need the extra height (I just think a big thick heel on a boot is sexier).
That being said, I'd still kill for a pair of those boots.
New York Fashion week is starting next week and shortly after that London, Milan and Paris will be starting their unparalleled weeks of publicity, glamour and money. All of the most high profile, most exclusive designers will show off their latest collections to a world audience. I love seeing all the new collections, planning out what I want to buy and how I want to look in the upcoming season.
So where am I looking in these fashion weeks? Cities? Designers?
In the opposite direction.
I was just reading in Dazed & Confused about this year's Caribbean fashion week, and it got me doing a bit of research. I saw some really fantastic stuff and it looked like so much fun! (Caribbean Fashion Week website). The selection of menswear wasn't the best, and most of it wasn't really my style, it got me looking into other, lesser well known fashion weeks.
Lahore Fashion week (Pakistan) will be November 4-8
Singapore Fashion week should also be in early November.
From now on I'm definitely going to focus more on some of the lower profile fashion weeks. As much as I go crazy for Vivienne Westwood and Dior and Alexander McQueen I also love finding new and interesting designers that I never knew about before - trying them and realizing they look fantastic. I like to mix styles and try new things when it comes to clothes so I'm going to be watching the Caribbean, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Shaghai (and Tokyo, obviously). These cities should get more international publicity, the world's creativity isn't locked up in Paris, London and New York.
I hear about the same designers being brilliant every year in those cities and it's starting to get a bit tired. I still want to know, but I'm going to look for things that are completely new to me as well. And anyway, I'm tired of all this 'giving food/charity' to developing nations. The best way to help a developing nation to develop is to become more invested in their economy - to recognize that the country has something to offerer and buy it! Supporting those creative industries will fuel more innovation and industry within the country and promote a more equitable international relationship.
So it's settled. a solution to world poverty, is international shopping!
It was a long trip to get there, but fortunatly we got cheap flights
from Cardiff to De Gaulle - there are tons of flights that fly London -
Paris but that would add a 3 hour train ride. We ended up having to
catch a bus at 5am to get our flight, and then from Paris we took the
metro from the airport to a train station fairly close to out hotel. it
turned out to be a huge metro station (Gare du Nord) which also was
also a huge train station full of shops and many levels, so it was
interesting to try to navigate. Right after getting off the train, my
the handle for my bag got stuck going through one of the exit gates. So
while I struggled with that, everyone else just went around in the
gates on either side of me, and were probably quite amused. Since I had
already put my ticket through the gate wouldn't move, and I eventually
had to bend the metal handle to get it out.
Fortunately, after seeing this a French lady (must have
realized we were tourists) and helped us find our way out of the
station and pointed us in the right direction. I had written out
directions from that station to the hotel, so it was fairly easy to
find but as we got closer to the hotel we saw alot of neon signs and
shops that seemed quite... questionable. We ended up staying a block
away from the Moulin Rouge.
We
got into the room and dropped off our bags, changed and went right back
out. We walked down from out hotel to the Arc D'Triumph (about a 45
minute walk) and then all the way down the Champs-Elysees, grabbed cafe
lunches and amazing pastries and pretty much just wandered up, down,
and all over that area - just to see as much as we could in that area.
It was nice just walking around, because we would end up in places that
we didn't exactly intend to be (but saw so many places and buildings
that we never would have ended up with a map and cab).
Oh Mister Bloggy blog how I've missed you! I didn't realize it until just now, but its true. You are so perfect for me! You remember everything I've ever said, you are always there when I'm drunk and want to talk, you have no need to say anything, you don't hold me to anything I say (editing, editing, dear boy!) and I can model you in my own image.
What more could a boy want? What more could I want? Ha. That list would take a lifetime.
So, I just got a shipment from Sephora, and I think I must have been sloshed when I ordered it or something, because I have some weird stuff.
So this is just supposed to even out your complextion and stuff. But
on the back, it says "Dermetologically Tested on Asian Skin." And that
just seemed a little strange to me... they tested it on Asians?
What? Isn't that.... whatever I don't know. I think there should be
some moral objection to that, but oh well.
I haven't tried it yet, but hey its tested! It must be good...
Well, here's the thing. I may have had a little to drink tonight! So I'll just have to start off my mentioning how much I love chapmage! It just is an excellent drink! I just got a whole bunch of bottles (not sure what kind, but I like them cause they have a fleur-de-lis all over them). I like to get quite a few bottles at once, since, I'm not exactly of age, when I get someone to buy me booze, I like to get lots! So that way, I have enought to last me for a while.
But tonight wasn't like a hardcore drinking night: althought I did indulge a little. But it was more like, a drink some and just hang out and talk, which I like more sometimes (although I can be partial to parties).
I just picked up a ring today that I decided to have made quite a while ago (I actually kind of forgot about it). But I'm really picky about jewellery, so I try and get it made for me, since I can't just go into a jewellery store and see something I like (well I can - but its infrequent).
Today, I got up all early, got ready and did what I normally do: decided to completely change my outfit at the last minute. Since I had a midterm today, and I was feeling kind of preppy, I decided to dress preppy! Collared shirt underneath a T-shirt (plus it was cold, I needed layers). So I did all that - I have this theory, that dressing like your smart will make you smarter. I don't care if its wrong, I like my theory!
Here's how it turned out, I actually think it was fairly good! You can tell its a lightning bolt, the lines are fairly straight, the colours are pretty good. Okay, I know I don't look exactly like Bowie, my nose is too big, my lips are too big, my hair isn't orange, and there's alot of other things, but I actually really like it.
I'm definatly doing the makeup for Halloween day at school.
Ha! It looks like my skin is a really similar colour - in the shoulders
at least. Oh well, at least Bowie can be all airbrushed nicely.
I just thought that I'd post that. But, I promise I'll start updating regulary soon, and nice long posts!
